Alimony
Alimony is monies paid to a dependent spouse to help until they get back on their feet.
Alimony is normally not awarded when the marriage is less than 5 years, however, if there is one party who is the primary caregiver of a child, and exception may be in order. It is the belief of the court that if a couple have been married for less than 5 years, that they should be able to reasonable be expected to support themselves. It is not a reasonable assumption when children are involved..
